Composition:-
Each tablet Contains:
Cephalexin(anhydrous)
Equ. To cephalexin: 125 mg
Description:- It is an first
generation cephalosporin. Cephalexin is bactericidal
which is active against a wide range of Gram-positive
and Gram-negative organisms.
Cephalexin comes from a group of semisynthetic
antibiotics obtained from cephalosporin-C. It
is chemically related to Penicillin . This is
an bactericidal antibiotic and produces its effect
by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis.It
attains high concentrations in plasma and urine.
The drug may be used once or twice a day for UTI
.
It has highest activity against Gram Positive
bacteria .Thus it is active against Staphylococci,
Streptococci including spyogens, veridans and
Pneumoniae.
Indications:
· Used in Respiratory, Urinary and soft
tissue infections caused by Gram-Negative bacteria
and organisms like Klebsiella, Proteus, Enterobacter,
sirratia.
· Used for septicaemias caused by Gram-Negative
Organisms.
· Used for surgical Prophylaxis.
· Typhoid: As alternative of fluoroquinolones
· Used to treat mixed aerobic and anaerobic
infections seen in cancer patients and patients
with colorectal surgery, obstetric complications.
Contraindications: Pateints with
any known allergy to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions: Renal Impairment,
Gastrointestinal disease.
Children : Safe
Dosage:Children: 25-100 mg/kg
body weight in divided doses every 12 hours. Adults:
1-2 gm daily in two divided doses.
