COMPOSITION:
Each tablet contains :
Ofloxacin : 200 mg
Description: Ofloxacin is a most
potent first generation flouroquinolone antimicrobial
agent with potent activity against a broad spectrum
of gram- positive and gram- negative bacteria
including Ps. aeruginosa, Enterobacteriaceae and
Staph. aureus.Ofloxacin does not disturb normal
anaerobic intestinal flora and has significant
post–antibiotic effect & thus prevents
regrowth of bacteria.It has remarkable microbiological
features like:
· Rapid bactericidal activity and high
potency against a gram-positive bacteria.
· Relatively long post-antibiotic effect
on enterobacteriacea.
· Low frequency of mutational resistance.
· Low Propensity to select plasmid type
resistant mutants.
· Active against many beta lactum and amino
glycoside resistant bacteria.
Indications: Ofloxacin is effective
in broad range of infections .It has wide spectrum
bactericidal activity. It is a drug of choice
in
· Respiratory tract infections specially
suitable for chronic bronchitis and other respiratory
infections like tuberculosis.
· Urinary tract infections, E.N.T. , skin
and soft tissue infections, conjunctivitis.
· Gastro intestinal tract infections, Intra
abdominal infections, Gynaecological infections,
meningitis.
· Infections in bone , joint and soft tissues.
· Gonorrohea, chancroid,bacterial gastroenteritis
· Prophylaxis of sepsis in neutropenic
patients.
· It is active against gram- negative septicaemias.
Contraindications : Hypersensitivity
to Ofloxacin or any other quinolone
Derivative . Not recommended for use in children
and adolescents.
Paediatrics: Safety not established.
Pregnancy: Contraindicated.
Lactation: Contraindicated.
Elderly: safe
Children: Not recommended
Dosage: 1-2 tablets twice a day.
