
Description: Methyl Ergometrine Maleate is
a semi synthetic analogue of ergometrine (an ergot
alkaloid).
It has a prominent uterine action and is used in obstetrics.
They increase force, frequency and duration of contraction.
Gravid uterus is more sensitive, especially at term
and in early puerparium.
Composition: Each 1ml ampoule contains:Methyl
Ergometrine Maleate 0.2mg
Indications: Active management of 3rd stage
of labour. Uterine atony/haemorrhage during and after
third
Stage of labour in association with caesarean section,
following abortion, subinvolution of the uterus, puerperal
bleeding.
Dosage: 0.1 to 0.2 mg by im/iv route according
to the severity of case.
Contraindications: Severe hypertension, pregnancy,
first stage of labour, second stage of labour before
crowning of head. Hypertensive toxemia.
Special precautions: Do not give drug before
delivery of child. Breach presentation. Hepatic or
