 Description:
Amikacin is a semi synthetic aminoglycoside effective
against a variety of aerobic gram-negative bacteria,
including those that are resistant to Gentamicin &
other aminoglycosides.
Composition: Each ml.contains: Amikacin-50mg/ml,
250mg /ml
as Amikacin sulphate.
Indications: Respiratory tract infections, CNS
infections, meningitis, skin&
Soft tissues infections, intra abdominal infections,
burn and post operative infections.
Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity
to amino glycosides.
Special precautions: Impaired renal function,
ensure adequate hydration.
Pregnancy & lactation: contra indicated
Paediatrics: Use with caution
Side effects: Ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity,
neuromuscular blockade, skin rash,
Tremors.
Dosage: 15mg/kg body weight/day 1.5gm in 2
to 3 divided dosage by IM or
I.V. route.
